Belgian circulation tax 2026 : Wallonia and Brussels
Calculate your annual circulation tax based on your fiscal horsepower (CV). Official scale, identical in Wallonia and Brussels. Free, instant calculation.
Parameters
This is not the engine’s actual horsepower, fiscal horsepower is a much smaller number (usually between 4 and 15), shown in box P.6 of your vehicle registration certificate.
Do you live in Flanders? This calculator does not apply, the Flemish Region uses a separate system based on CO2, vehicle age, and Euro emissions standard.

One figure to know: your fiscal horsepower
Unlike the registration tax (more complex, and due only once), the annual circulation tax in Wallonia and Brussels depends on a single criterion for a passenger car: fiscal horsepower (CV), shown on your vehicle registration certificate.
An identical scale in both regions
Wallonia and Brussels apply exactly the same rate per CV bracket, an exception among regionalised taxes, where each region usually sets its own scale. Above 20 CV, the increase per additional fiscal horsepower is close to €149.56 (2026), but varies by a few cents from one bracket to the next depending on annual indexation: we use the full official schedule, horsepower by horsepower, up to 50 CV rather than a fixed amount.
Flanders uses a different system
The Flemish Region reformed its car taxation with several tariff regimes depending on vehicle type and registration date: flat-rate tax, minimum tax, or a "green traffic tax" that adjusts the base rate for CO2 emissions, Euro norm and fuel type. This complexity, and its dependence on precise vehicle data, led us not to model it here rather than risk a wrong estimate. Use the official Vlaamse Belastingdienst simulator for a reliable calculation.
What this calculator does not cover
Only the ANNUAL circulation tax for a passenger car, dual-purpose car or minibus in Wallonia or Brussels. Does not cover: the registration tax (TMC/BIV), Flanders, motorcycles, trucks, trailers and motorhomes. For the taxable benefit of a company car, see Company car benefit in kind.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find my fiscal horsepower (CV)?
The CV figure is shown on your vehicle registration certificate, box P.6. Failing that, it can be derived from the vehicle's engine displacement (box P.1) using an official formula linked to engine power.
Is the amount identical in Wallonia and Brussels?
Yes: both regions apply exactly the same official rate per CV bracket for passenger cars, dual-purpose cars and minibuses (verified against the official documents of both tax administrations).
What if I live in Flanders?
This calculator doesn't apply. The Flemish Region uses a system with several tariff regimes (flat-rate, minimum, or a "green traffic tax" adjusted for CO2, Euro norm and fuel type), too complex to reliably reproduce here. Use the official Flemish Tax Administration simulator instead.
Does this tool also calculate the registration tax (TMC/BIV)?
No. The registration tax is a separate one-off tax due when the vehicle is registered, calculated differently (a degressive coefficient based on age in Wallonia, a CO2-based formula in Flanders). This calculator only covers the ANNUAL circulation tax.
What is the additional LPG tax?
Vehicles fitted with an LPG installation pay an additional annual tax, at a flat rate depending on the CV bracket (€89.16, €148.68 or €208.20), on top of the base circulation tax.
Do these amounts apply for all of 2026?
The scale is valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, amounts are indexed every year on 1 July. A registration outside this period may follow a slightly different scale.
