Understand my Belgian tax return (IPP) 2026
Salary, dependent children, pension savings, donations... find the section of your tax return that matches your situation. Free, sourced from SPF Finance.
Tax-on-Web already pre-fills most of this data (sent directly by your employer or bank). This guide helps you understand and check your draft return, not replace it.
🗓️ Simplified draft return to be corrected by 19 July 2026 online (MyMinfin), or by 30 June 2026 on paper. If everything is correct and complete, you have nothing to do.

A wayfinding guide, not a calculator
The Belgian tax return is organized into sections numbered with Roman numerals (Section II, Section IV, Section X...), themselves divided into items. This guide helps you find the right section for each common situation, without ever calculating an amount.
Why not a simple tax calculation?
If you're looking to estimate your tax amount, use our personal income tax calculator. This guide answers a different question: "which section of my return do I find this information in?", useful for checking a draft return or preparing the documents you need to gather.
What Tax-on-Web already does for you
Your employer, health fund, bank, or unemployment office send most of the relevant amounts directly to SPF Finance (salary, pension savings, unemployment benefits...). Tax-on-Web pre-fills these automatically into your draft return. This guide helps you understand that draft and spot what you need to add yourself, typically donations, childcare costs, or service vouchers.
What this guide does not cover
Mortgage loans and the main residence (complex rules, differing by region and loan contract date), rental income and cadastral income, corporate tax, and international situations are not covered in v1, the risk of error is too high for a general-purpose guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does this tool calculate my tax?
No. It only helps you identify which section of the return each situation belongs to (salary, dependent children, pension savings...). Use our personal income tax (IPP) calculator to estimate your tax amount.
Doesn't Tax-on-Web already do all this?
Largely, yes: Tax-on-Web automatically pre-fills data sent by your employer, health fund, or bank, and only shows you the relevant sections based on your answers. This guide helps you understand what your draft return contains, and spot what you need to add yourself, notably donations, childcare costs, and service vouchers, which are not always pre-filled.
Can I just validate my simplified draft return without checking it?
That is risky, for you, not for the state. The tax administration itself asks you to always check the pre-filled data. The draft rarely gets your income wrong (your employer reports it directly), but it can omit the expenses that reduce your tax: donations, childcare costs, service vouchers... If they are missing and you do not correct in time, you lose those reductions. If everything is correct and complete, however, you indeed have nothing to do.
Why don't you show the exact 6-digit code?
Because that precise code (in the format XXXX-XX) varies by individual form and already appears, in red, on your preparatory document. We prefer to reliably point you to the section and item rather than guess a 6-digit code that could be wrong in your specific case.
Why is the mortgage loan not covered?
Deduction rules for a main residence are very complex and differ by region and by the date of the loan contract. The risk of error is too high for a general-purpose guide, consult the official SPF Finance simulator or your bank for this specific point.
Does this guide replace an accountant?
No. For a complex situation (self-employed with multiple activities, inheritance, international income...), consult an accountant or tax advisor. This guide covers the most common situations of a Belgian employee or self-employed worker.
