Two rates, one account

A Belgian regulated savings account combines a base rate, earned from the day after the deposit, and a fidelity bonus, reserved for money that stays in place for 12 full months. The marketing rate "up to X%" shown by banks is often the sum of both, not a guaranteed rate if you withdraw your money along the way.

A tax rate specific to regulated savings

Unlike other investment income (dividends, term accounts), regulated savings benefit from an annual exemption (€1,020/person in 2026, doubled for a joint account) and a reduced 15% withholding tax beyond that, instead of the standard 30% rate.

What this calculator does not do

Does not compare banks against each other (no continuously maintained rate comparison), does not model multiple deposits/withdrawals on different dates, nor any account fees, and does not cover non-regulated savings accounts (term accounts).

Frequently asked questions

Why do I have to enter my own rates instead of picking my bank?

Savings account rates change regularly and vary with current promotions. Rather than maintaining a comparison that would quickly become outdated, this tool asks you to enter the rates shown on your own account's information sheet, the same approach used by other calculators on this site.

Why don't I get any fidelity bonus over a short period?

The fidelity bonus is only earned if your money stays in the account for 12 full months, at a rate fixed at the time of deposit. Below that duration, you only receive the base interest.

What happens if I withdraw money before 12 months?

You lose the fidelity bonus only on the withdrawn amount, not on your entire savings. The bank conventionally assumes that the most recently deposited amounts are withdrawn first, which protects the bonus on money deposited longer ago. This specific mechanism (partial withdrawals) is not calculated in this tool, which is limited to a single amount over a given period.

What is the exemption threshold and why does it double for a joint account?

Interest on a regulated savings account is exempt from withholding tax up to €1,020 per year per person (2026). A joint account between spouses or legal cohabitants benefits from the combination of both exemptions, i.e. €2,040.

Is this 15% rate the same as on my shares or dividends?

No. The reduced 15% withholding tax only applies to regulated savings. Other investment income (dividends, term account interest, capital gains on securities) follows different rules, see our other investor taxation tools on this.
